Description
As one half of the Scottish sibling folk-rock duo The Sutherland Brothers, Iain Sutherland made his mark on the UK charts with late-70s hits such as Arms Of Mary and Secrets. Going solo in the 80s, he would work with the cream of the British music scene, among them guitarist Phil Palmer (Eric Clapton, Dire Straits), keyboardist Mick Weaver (David Gilmour, Joe Cocker) and drummer Dave Mattacks (Fairport Convention, Nick Drake), all of whom graced his debut solo album, 1983s Mixed Emotions. With singles such as the muscular, radio-ready rock of The Wheel, the ruminative ballad Pictures Of England and the vintage country-rock of It Coulda Been Buddy Holly, the album is a master class in both songwriting and musicianship as varied in its styles as it is in the emotional landscape Sutherland surveys. With Sutherlands passing in 2019, it also now stands as a heart-warming testament to a much-loved talent. Track Listing: 1. The Wheel (Faites Vos Jeux); 2. Affairs of the Heart; 3. It Coulda Been Buddy Holly; 4. Pictures of England; 5. Night People; 6. Lost and Blind; 7. Mixed Emotions; 8. New Ways to Kill the Dragon; 9. Waiting for the One; 10. Blaze of Glory.
