230 EMD SW1001 s were produced between 1968 and 1986 with many in service today. The SW1001, with it s lower height cab was an alternative to the SW1000. The SW1001 used EMD s 8-645E 1000HP prime mover. These locomotives were primarily used in the United States, but many did find homes in the following countries: Canada, Guinea, South Korea, Mexico, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and the UK.
