Description

Set in 1962 Baltimore, “Hairspray” follows Tracy Turnblad, a spirited and plus-sized teenager with a passion for dancing. Tracy dreams of appearing on “The Corny Collins Show,” a local TV dance program. When a spot opens up, Tracy auditions and wins a place on the show, much to the dismay of the reigning dance queen, Amber Von Tussle, and her scheming mother, Velma. With the help of her friends, including the charming Seaweed and the sassy Motormouth Maybelle, Tracy not only becomes a star but also takes a stand against racial segregation, inspiring her community to embrace change and equality.
