Description
MGM, the film company, was famous for hitting the big time with Hank Williams when it launched its record label. Like most American labels in the 50s they fielded music in every popular genre. Although they sold records with Ivory Joe Hunter and Billy Eckstine, the company was not particularly big in the R&B field, so in 1955 they launched the 55000 series under the supervision of the legendary Leroy Kirkland. Sadly there were no hits, just a batch of great music featuring doowop, blues, smooth ballads and honking instrumentals. First time on CD for most of these Ultra rare R&B 78s presented here in this unique collector’s edition.
